Retirement can come too early for many people who want and are able to remain active. Probus clubs are organisations for men and women who have retired, semi-retired or are nearing retirement from their profession or business and want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests.
The title Probus is an abbreviation of the words PROfessional and BUSiness and similar self-sufficient clubs are run locally throughout the UK and in many other countries around the world. Each Probus club is autonomous; there is no central organisation and each club sets its own rules.
Eckington Probus Club is a non-political, non-sectarian club for men, women or couples who are retired, semi-retired or nearing retirement. Our members come from Eckington and its surrounding areas – some as far afield as Sheffield. We meet monthly on most months throughout the year for lunch at a local hotel and lunch is followed by a guest speaker. Occasionally we enjoy an outing together in the Spring or Summer.
Our current members come from a wide range of professional and business backgrounds, including – amongst others – insurance, retailing, medicine, the clergy, electrical engineering, education, pharmacy, geology and finance.
We currently have vacancies for new members; annual membership subscriptions for 2022 are £20 for individual membership or £30 for a couple. Why not come to one of our meetings as a guest initially? You can arrange to be invited by contacting our club secretary by email at the address below. We look forward to welcoming you!
